There are a lot of myths concerning insurance.  Below are some of the most common misconceptions:

  1. Color determines the price of auto insurance – Color has no bearing on insurance premiums.

  2. Your credit has no effect on your insurance rate – All insurance companies use your credit information when calculating your rates.

  3. Your insurance will cover you if your car is stolen, vandalized or damaged by tree limbs, hail, flood or fire – This depends on which coverage you purchase.

  4. You only need the minimum amount of auto liability insurance required by law – The minimum amount required by law is RARELY sufficient.  Your agent should help guide you in making an informed purchase.

  5. If another person drives your car, in the event of an accident, his or her auto insurance will cover the damages – In most cases, your insurance would be pay first.

  6. Personal auto insurance also covers business use of your car – A personal auto policy can deny a claim if the vehicle is being used for business.

ABOUT US

Meckes & Associates Insurance started in the fall of 1982 as a partnership between Mike Meckes and Jim Stanforth and was located on Memorial Drive in Greenville.  After several years, Mike purchased Jim’s interest and Meckes & Associates Insurance was established.

As business grew Meckes & Associates Insurance agent force grew.  Steve Myers, a long time friend of Mike’s, was added to the staff as an agent.  Not long after Mike’s daughter, Tiffany Pope graduated from Ohio State University she joined the business as an agent.

  1. *After a homeowner's loss, you will be asked to produce a list of personal property that was damaged, destroyed or stolen.  If the loss is substantial (think house fire), many people have a hard time remembering everything that was in their house.  Taking photos or a quick video tour of your house/garage/shed, will make listing items much easier and reduce the chances of forgetting smaller items.

  1. * When was the last time you reviewed your coverage?  Like many people, do you stuff all those insurance pages in a file year after year?  Now is a good time to sit down with your agent and double check your coverage to make sure you're not missing something important or paying for something you no longer need.

  1. *We all know that there has been a surge in crime lately, especially daytime thefts.  Keep all doors and windows locked and be aware of your surroundings at all times.  If you arrive home and it looks like you've been burglarized,  do not enter the building.  Call the police and let them make sure the burglars are no longer on the property.
